Fishing for Redfish in the Saltwater Lagoons near Orlando Florida

Orlando Redfish fishingA short ride to the boat launch from Orlando, Florida is simply some of the best redfish or red drum fishing in the world. Known for it's clean & clear saltwater lagoons and large inshore redfish like the gentleman is holding in the adjacent photo, Orlando's Indian River Lagoon, Banana River and the world famous Mosquito Lagoon are great diversion from the themeparks. Just minutes from it's vacation areas Orlando's inshore redfishing is an awesome break for tourist or dedicated anglers and families visiting Central Florida.

The chaps (gentlemen) pictured on this page visited the Orlando area from the UK and went knee deep in redfish for a spectacular day of fishing. They even managed to bring back a slot sized channel bass for the dinner table.

"We saw tremendous sized red & black drum tailing in the choppy water and finally hooked one.  It was fun for my two chums visiting Orlando from the UK and we'll be back to fish the lagoons or maybe offshore in the summer."
explained one of the anglers above.

The fellows in the photograph above had an awesome day of fishing near Orlando in the Banana River Lagoon during the fall. The weather was cool in the 70°F range and the big fish were spawning. It's challenging to fish with three anglers and one guide in the shallow water lagoons so Captain Richard had his anglers wade over to the fish in thigh deep water and make cast into the schools of large fish. When you call and ask for shallow water fishing trip, remember that all shallow water boats are small and have weight restrictions. There is also the matter of how many anglers you can actually fish at a time. There's a great article written about overloading the boat and making a high performance trip into a low performance boat ride. The Captain / Guide had to improvise on this day and coax his anglers into the shallow water because his boat simply wouldn't go shallow enough with three big men and a guide on board.

Orlando's Best Bet for Sea Trout

Captain Gina BradleyThe British Are Coming! The British Are Coming! To Orlando to go fishing in the beautiful lagoons on Florida's east coast. These three handsome gentlemen from England had a blast with Captain Richard looking and fishing for redfish on the Indian and Banana River Lagoon. Orlando's known for many things from Mickey & Minnie to Shamu, but the locals are keyed in on our spectacular fishery for many inshore fishing species and the fun of being outdoors and in the Florida sunshine.

You can count on having a good time on the water, it's one of my favorite things to do when I have a day off. Captain Richard takes me fishing as often as possible and it's almost always the perfect day. Don't take my word on it! Where are the Redfish in September?

Fall redfishing can be great as the fish start out on the spawn in September and spread out later as the temperatures decline. After the Spawn in early fall, the fish are hungry and readily eat, the trick is finding them because the fishing pressure has sent them to deeper parts of the lagoon. Look for big reds at Sebastian Inlet and in the northern part of the Indian River Lagoon. Slot reds will fill in as the fall mullet run produces plenty of food for hungry red drum to pounce on.
